As of September 1, 2009 the marriage license fee is $60, payable in cash or check to "Macon County Register of Deeds."

 Marriage licenses may be obtained in our office between the hours of 8:30 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (excluding Holidays). The license is good
for 60 days from the date of issuance and may be used in any county in the
state of North Carolina.

Applicants 18 years of age & older must present A Social Security Card* & A
form of Picture I.D.**

    * Driver's License (current, not expired)

    * State issue I.D. card (current, not expired)

    * Passport (current, not expired)

    * Military I.D. (current, not expired)

 All applicants must provide the above stated information in order to obtain a
Marriage License.

*Applicants may present their Social Security Card, A Numi sheet from the
Social Security office, A current year tax return or pay stub. If an applicant
does not have a social security number, they must sign a sworn statement to
that effect.

**Your picture I.D. must be a valid, current Identification. Failure to do so
will result in a refusal of application.

***If an applicant does not have a social security number, they will need to provide a
certified copy of their birth certificate.
